Social media. For many of us, it’s a love hate relationship, myself included. There are only so many times you can see Karren Smith’s relationship status change from single to it’s complicated to engaged in one year, surely? And follow to unfollow accounts, can we just not please? Though ultimately, I can say that I am pretty much addicted to social media and the benefits that it reaps for my little corner of the internet.

How social media can help you to increase your engagement and traffic | Love, Maisie

It can be really hard to stand out on the internet when it’s just so, well, saturated! Today I wanted to share with you just some of the ways that I find social media helps to increase engagement and traffic for my little corner of the internet.

Scheduling tweets
I’m sure you’ve all heard this by now, but scheduling your tweets on a platform like tweet deck is probably my number one tip for helping to increase your engagement and traffic to your blog. There are a couple of different platforms out there, hootsuite and buffer to name just a couple, but I personally prefer Tweetdeck. It’s free, it’s simple and it’s a direct attachment of twitter itself.

Depending on how often you’re active online and on twitter, will depend on how often you’ll want to share scheduled tweets! I personally share tweets, generally, every hour between the hours of 7am and 11pm. Personally, I find that the best times for traffic heading to my blog from twitter are from those tweets that go out between 7am-11am and 5pm-11pm. You can share links to your latest posts or let people know how to subscribe to your new newsletter and even links to your other social media accounts.

Taking help from social media agencies
Alternatively, because it can be hard to manage your social media pages for your blog or business and have a full time job on top of that, there are a handful of great companies out there that specialise in social media who you can hire to do these kinds of things for you! For your blog or business, you can get social media services from Tekfirst, a leading social media agency in Harrogate!

Engaging with others on social media
Instagram is such a fun and creative way to promote your blog or business. It gives you the chance to use images to attract people to your page, whom you can then direct to your blog or website! Genuine, insightful comments on Instagram are far more beneficial for both you and the person’s page than Tom’s “cool” comment that must have taken him all of ten seconds to think up and hit enter on. If you’ve just found an account that you really like, an account that inspires you, give them a follow and comment on the photo that led you to their grid!

People will often post on social media asking you to send them your links if they’re looking for new content to read and follow, so this is the perfect opportunity to connect with both them and anyone else that is following that thread of comments!

Another great way to engage with other people online is to join in with twitter chats! There are so many different twitter chats out there, I guarantee there is a category to suit everyone’s niche! If you head to twitter and type in your preferred hashtag, I’m sure you’ll find a chat that happens once a week centered around that hashtag. My personal favourite is #TheGirlGang chat which is on every Monday at 6pm GMT!

Link up your Instagram to your Facebook page
Now, this is something that I’ve only done recently but I’ve really seen the benefits of. Since linking up my Instagram account to my promotional blog Facebook page, not only has the traffic from Instagram to my blog gone up, but my following on Instagram has grown from around 450 to over 750! Once you link your two accounts, Instagram gives you daily insights which are so helpful! Including, when your followers are most active throughout the day, which of your posts are being seen by the most people and receiving the most attention etc.

Posting at a time of day that works for your account is key to engagement and driving traffic. I have personally really seen the benefits from this and can’t encourage you more to try this out if you have a blog or business Facebook page! For example, today is Wednesday so I know that my followers are most active at 1pm and 8pm, so those would be the best two times to post today!

So there we have it, my top tips for increasing your engagement and traffic to your blog/website! Do you do any of these things too? What do you do to drive traffic and increase engagement? I’d love to know! Until next time!
