In December I was browsing through the stationary section at Wilkinson’s, I 100% recommend you do so too, when I came across this little “The thankful diary” for just £2. I contemplated the purchase for a solid 5 minutes, with my main argument being, what if I can’t think of anything to write in it? But then I gave myself a “mental slap” and thought, how could I not have something to write in it each day?
In a world full of perfectly filtered Instagram feeds, filled with jet setting holiday’s and indulgent purchases, it’s often hard to be thankful for the things that we have in our own lives, even the little, seemingly insignificant things. It’s so easy to take things for granted, especially when it’s something or someone that you use or see every single day.
I’m sure you’ve seen them before because I certainly had, but basically a thankful diary or a gratitude diary is a space for you to write down all the things that you yourself are thankful for. In this case, each page has space to write six things, split in to two sections. The idea is that you write in three things that you are thankful for in the morning and three in the evening before you go to bed. Because I’m terrible at remembering to do things like this, I use each section of 1,2,3 each evening for the whole day! So far, I’ve managed to do it each day this year! Okay, okay I know, that’s only what, four days so far, but hey it’s a start!
You can of course use these thankful diary’s in whatever way you personally want to, whatever works for you! Some of the things I’ve written in so far are things such as: the lovely person that I get to wake up to every morning, our warm, cosy bed and feeling our little (but probably very large) baby in my tummy!
For Christmas, one of my brothers bought me How To Be Mindful by Anna Barnes which was honestly a perfect pic for me, well done Harry! It’s a little book full of tips, quotes, activities and beautiful illustrations, all with the intention of helping you to live a more content and mindful life. Admittedly, this is something I probably could have done with from the get go of my pregnancy, but I’m glad that it’s fallen into my lap now because so far, I’m really loving it!
Being mindful and being thankful are two things that I think nowadays are very easily swept under the carpet and left there for a little too long. It’s so easy to get caught up and bogged down in day to day life, but with everything going on in the world around us, I think it is really important to take a step back and just think about how lucky we are and to show appreciation for the things that make us smile, even if they might seem mundane to some!
If you’re a regular reader of my little corner of the internet, you’ll know that I a, say “my little corner of the internet” far too much and b, share quotes on an(almost) weekly basis, in a bid to spread some positivity into the blogging world! This year, I’m going to try and always make these posts positive and not a place for me to moan and complain about things that probably aren’t even worth my time writing about!
We should all be thankful every single day for still breathing, so many people lose their lives everyday; whether that be to illness, terrorism or war, to wake up each day to our loved ones and our own lives, really is a gift. What are you thankful for today? Do you keep a thankful diary? I’d love to know!
