7 ways to make a bad day better! | Love, Maisie | www.lovemaisie.com

Sometimes, you can just have a really rubbish day. Sometimes it just feels like one thing after another and that nothing is deemed to go right that day. I’ve had many a day like that and I have slowly compiled a little list of things that can help to make a bad day better.

I know this isn’t always do-able, especially if like me you’re a wahm(work at home mum), like if you’re not trying to cram work into a nap then you’re seeing to your little one, but taking 5 minutes to yourself to just breathe and do NOTHING works wonders for those tough days. It might mean that you need to wait for your partner to come home from work so that you can have those 5 peaceful minutes or make the decision to lose 5 minutes of working time whilst your baby is napping but you’ll feel ten times better after you’ve had that small amount of time to just breathe and CHILL.

Okay so a cuppa doesn’t cure all really, but a hot drink is always a good idea. My top two picks are a coffee or a hot chocolate but I’m sure tea will work just as well.

Providing it’s not raining cats and dogs(unless you enjoy the rain and have a raincoat, then go right ahead!), get yourself outside. Ideally, get yourself out for a walk for at least half an hour and get your heart rate going. Exercise releases endorphins which are essentially “happy chemicals”, so what are you waiting for?! But even just 5 minutes in the garden can really help to de-stress and re focus yourself.

Who wants to be a millionaire anyone? But in all seriousness, when was the last time you actually spoke to someone either in person(that you don’t work with/doesn’t live in your house) or on the phone? Text messages and whatsapp are super convenient but sometimes a real chat is what you need. So if things are getting on top of you, call your best pal and have a good ol’ chin wag.

Whether your creative outlet is cooking or writing, painting or gardening, if you feel like everything is going wrong and getting on top of you, channel your stress into something you’re passionate about and create something beautiful. You’ll be surprised how creative you can be when you feel stressed out and how calm you’ll feel afterwards.

Never underestimate the power of fresh bed sheets.. especially when you pair them with a hot water bottle and freshly shaved legs. If your day seems like it’s only going downhill, take ten minutes to change your sheets and when you get into bed that night you’ll thank your earlier self whilst you’re feeling super snug and fresh.

Basically, don’t use your phone. I’ve talked about social media a lot recently, but it really can have a big, negative impact on our day to day life. For example, you might have accomplished something that you’re really proud of, but then suddenly you find yourself on Twitter reading about something someone else has accomplished and you feel as though your accomplishment is inferior. A, it’s not and B, it’s normal! So many of us feel pressured to succeed and to be on top of the game, but we just need to learn to convert that negative emotion into a positive one and celebrate other peoples accomplishments without doubting our own.

If you’ve come across this blog post because you’re having a rough day; firstly, I’m sorry and secondly, it will get better! Have you tried doing any of these things to brighten your bad day before? What are you top tips on making a bad day better?

I always curse at trying to get the baby out of the house with the stroller, the baby bag, food, and enough toys to distract him with, but I'm always glad that I did it AND I feel super accomplished haha. I also make a habit of turning my phone onto airplane mode. In fact, it automatically goes onto airplane mode from 10pm-7am. I'm usually awake at that time, but at least I don't get notifications! I'm also working on getting to bed earlier/not picking up my phone before 7am. It's hard, but I'm going to do it if it's the last thing I do.
