If you’re a OG reader, you might remember my quotes of the week that I used to share every Monday. I am a lover of quotes, positive affirmations and anything that I can read that will help to add a bigger spring to my step. Earlier this month I shared a blog post about how being more organised is benefiting my mental health(which you can read here if you like) and so I thought now would be the perfect time to share some of the quotes that help me through the tougher days.
“You can’t pour from an empty cup. Take care of yourself first.”
This one really resonates with me as a mother. If I am not feeling my best as a person then I am unable to mother my child the best that I possibly can. Think of it like when you have the flu, you take time off of work to recover as you wouldn’t be able to recover and perform to your best abilities if you were at work. Mental health works the same way. If you’re having a bad day, it’s important to remember to put yourself first, to ensure that everyone around you is receiving the best version of you possible.
“Be patient with yourself. Nothing in nature blooms all year.”
This one fits in beautifully with the first quote. As much as it’s important to try and build yourself up, it’s also equally as important to remember that it’s okay to have bad days. It’s okay to have a bad week or even a bad month. It’s okay and also completely normal to not feel 100% your best 365 days a year. Be kinder to yourself, your mind will thank you.
“You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem and smarter than you think” A. A. Milne
This is of course a quote from the wonderful Christopher Robin to Pooh bear. I’ve always loved Winnie The Pooh so it’s no surprise that this quote is strongly imprinted onto the front of my brain. Life is tough, sure it’s relative, but it’s tough. We are all facing battles that others might not know about and for that alone, you are braver than you believe and stronger than you seem.
“Your value does not decrease based on someone’s inability to see your worth.”
In a world addicted to social media and “likes” I think this quote is very apt. In can be very easy to be swept up in other peoples numbers and what you perceive to be their value, but just because you see high value in yourself where someone else might not see it, doesn’t mean it isn’t there. Not everyone that stumbles across your path is going to love you and that’s okay. So long as you are kind and you love yourself then really, that’s all that matters.
“Rise up and attack the day with enthusiasm.”
This isn’t always the easiest but it’s something I try my very hardest to do every morning. Of course, when I’m being awoken by a screaming toddler at 4.30am dragging me out of bed to go downstairs it can be tough to feel anything remotely close to enthusiasm, but I really do try. Something that I believe helps me to live by this quote is that each night, I write down one happy moment from that day, so even on the really hard days I sit down and pick out at least one good/happy thing that happened that day. Because everyday might not be good, but there is good in everyday.
Are there any quotes that you implement into your life that help you with your mental health? I’d love to hear what they are!
